Persons with disabilities are among the most affected in times of conflict and including them in peacebuilding endeavours is a duty and not a choice. This is the message presented to nearly 300 peace builders at the Build Peace international conference for 2023 which recently held in at the Busara Education Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Despite being the first time that FIEPWD is taking part at the now ten years international conference, our Chief Executive Officer, Kesah Princely  in a strongly worded discourse, highlighted the need to let persons with disabilities fully participate in peacebuilding activities. Kesah Princely standing in front of Peace building Flyer.   He presented on “role of conflict resolution practitioners in fostering disability inclusion through technology”. While regretting the fact that persons with disabilities have not been aptly included in peacebuilding, he said inclusive digital technologies make it possible for disabled people to be at the centre of peacebuliding. Using the raging Anglophone armed conflict in Cameroon as example, the disability rights journalist cum civil society leader proposed some useful factors to  follow in order to ensure the meaningful inclusion and full participation of disabled people in peacebuilding, intimating that all stake holders must be intentional in triggering inclusion.

The following factors were tabled to the peace builders;

1 All block and social media messages should be inclusive for instance, use of alternative text and respect of accessibility guide lines. 2 Inclusion of scholars of Conflict Resolution with disabilities to lead in peace building actions as this lends trust and credibility to the process for other persons with disabilities to join in such activities. 3 Funding of research on impact of armed conflicts on persons with disabilities, inclusive digital technologies and inclusive humanitarian actions. 4 Support the work of journalists with disabilities, especially stories around conflicts, peacebuilding and inclusive digital technologies. 5 Fund projects of organisations of persons with disabilities especially those related to inclusive peacebuilding, inclusive    e digital technologies and humanitarian intervention actions. The conference held from December 1 to 3 2023. Build Peace 2023 was a moment of empowerment too for FIEPWD as our team to Nairobi met several leaders who are interested in helping disabled people access resources to build their capacity on peacebuilding. FIEPWD also presented it agenda to organise an All African Disabled Journalists Conference, a topic which attracted much attention from delegates of the conference.
